Come the final league game of the season at Caldy in May 2025, Mike Rayer will have been Director of Rugby at Bedford Blues for two full decades and a lot has changed at Goldington Road since that first competitive fixture against Otley in September 2005.

In the last of our pre-season interviews with the Borough’s biggest sporting clubs, the Bedford Independent was invited to the home of Rugby to explore all the preparations for the campaign ahead and what has changed in 20 years for Rayer at Goldington Road.

Bedford Blues’ pre-season campaign begins under the Friday night lights against National One side, Blackheath at Goldington Road on 23 August, followed by two barnstorming fixtures against Saracens and officially the best side in England, Northampton Saints at Franklin’s Gardens.
