Police on the scene at Prebend Street.

Two people have been taken to hospital after a “massive fight” on Bedford’s Prebend Street between Ford End Road and Commercial Road this evening (23 April).

Police were called shortly after 5pm to reports of what eyewitnesses told the Bedford Independent was “a massive fight” between a group of men.

A spokesperson for Bedfordshire police said: “Officers attended and the altercation was stopped, but a police cordon remains in place while officers continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident.”

The police activity seems to be centred around an alleyway that leads to a private garden on the east side of the street.

Two people have been taken to hospital with injuries which are not life-threatening.

While no arrests have been confirmed, at least one man was handcuffed and taken away by police while the Bedford Independent was at the scene.

The road, which is a vital route for many people during rush hour was reduced to one lane causing traffic chaos while police officers dealt with the incident

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police on 101 quoting the reference 278 of 23 April.
