Chris Ramsey celebrates National Comedy Award win with Corn Exchange audience

Comedy fans at Bedford Corn Exchange were treated to a little something extra at Chris Ramsey’s stand-up show last night.

The comedian, who was in town for his postponed 2020 tour, won the award for Best Comedy Podcast with his wife Rosie at the National Comedy Awards for Stand Up To Cancer earlier in the evening.

He arrived on stage with a beer in one hand and his trophy in the other and announced that he’d put free apple sours behind the bar for everyone in the audience to help him celebrate.

Chris took the award for the podcast Shagged Married Annoyed at a glitzy ceremony at London’s Roundhouse. But the timing of the event meant he stepped straight off the red carpet and into a car headed for Bedford, leaving wife and co-host Rosie to party on his behalf.

Chris, who famously danced his way to the semi-finals of Strictly Come Dancing back in 2019, treated the audience to an evening of much-needed laughter, almost a year after the original gig was due to go ahead. It’s safe to say it was well worth the wait, and Bedford was more than happy to help him celebrate the win.

Catch The National Comedy Awards on Saturday 5th March, 2022, at 9pm on Channel 4.
