Broadway and West End star to join Wynne Evans for Bedford Park Proms

Organisers for Bedford Park Proms have announced the complete lineup for one of Bedford’s most popular family events, and it includes a “sensation” from Broadway and the West End.

Marisha Wallace, best known for starring in Something Rotten, Dreamgirls, Waitress and as Motormouth Maybelle in Hairspray, will be joining tenor Wynne Evans in Bedford Park on 31 July.

Music fans will also know Marisha from her chart-topping cover of Annie’s ‘Tomorrow’ which was released at the peak of the pandemic to raise funds for performers out of work.

She has also performed on Strictly Come Dancing and sang for the Queen at the Royal Variety Show.

Wynne Evans is a household name, singing to millions in Go Compare TV ads as the spoof opera star Gio Compario.

However, as a professionally trained opera singer with over 25 years of experience, Wynne’s debut album ‘A Song in My Heart’ went to Number 1 in the classical charts.

He is also a regular presenter on BBC Radio Wales and has also presented on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM.

He also sings at White Hart Lane for Spurs’ football matches and most recently performed for the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall at their Welsh home.

The soloists will be accompanied by the London Gala Orchestra conducted by Stephen Bell, and the Bedford Choral Society will provide further vocal talent.

A spokesperson for the event said: “Bedford Park Proms has one of the best laser shows in the country and a firework spectacular to finish the evening.

“It’s the only show that you can bring your own drinks and picnics too and it’s suitable for all ages.

“We’re still to announce our support acts, but for now this is shaping up to be one of the most exciting family nights out in Bedford’s social calendar.”

Bedford Park Concerts promoter Mark Harrison also announced last year that as a “thank you to the NHS, he would be giving 8000 Proms tickets away to NHS workers for just £1.00.

That £1.00 donation will then be donated to The Bedford Hospital Charity.
