DJ Spoony and Mark Russell headline hometown Club Momacoca night

UK Garage pioneer, DJ Spoony and Bedford club music legend, Mark Russell, are co-headlining a Club Momacoca night at Bedford Esquires next February that is not to be missed.

Spoony, who recently moved to Bedford, told the Bedford Independent, when we interviewed him back in July, that he was looking forward to playing in his new hometown and he’s wasted no time making it happen.

The Club Momacoca night will take place at Esquires on Saturday 26 February 2022.

Mark Russell, best known for pulling together the Cafe Mambo lineups at Bedford Park Concerts and the River Festival Dance Music Stage, is dedicated to bringing the best DJs to our home turf.

“As soon as Spoony moved here, I knew we had to do something together,” said Mark.

“I’ve known him since the 90s and he is completely synonymous with the UK Garage scene, but enjoys and plays all styles of dance music – so get ready and come to dance hard.”

Spoony, who has a regular show on BBC Radio 2, took to his home studio in Bedford during lockdown to live stream a weekly ‘Spoony’s House’ show.

Likewise, Mark broadcast a weekly morning show on In2Beats to boost Bedfordians’ morale.

“Putting on the shows during lockdown was on a whole different level,” said Mark.

“The emotion levels were like nothing I’ve ever experienced. It was magical to see and feel the music connecting people literally from all parts of Bedford, across the UK and worldwide.

“The best feedback I received was ‘for those two hours each week the world seemed normal’. It was an honour and a privilege to be able to connect with the listeners on such a personal level. We laughed, cried and most of all took comfort being connected by the music.”

Just do what Spoony says…

Mark told the Bedford Independent that after the last couple of years, he cannot wait to pack out Esquires Level II and bring the party to Bedford.

“Last time we were there with Seb Fontaine, it was one of the last big get-togethers before lockdown hit.

“We cannot wait to welcome friends old and new to the dance floor next February.”
