Rollback World

When it opened its doors at the end of October 2017, Rollback World became the newest addition to Bedford’s Church Arcade.  Selling skateboards, rollerskates, scooters and BMXs, it’s the shop you wish had been open when you were a teenager, so if you’re currently a teenager, count yourself lucky…

“We’d been running Rollback World events and selling equipment online for a while,” said owner, Rob Beckford.  “Our roller sessions at the Bunyan Sports Centre regularly attract families and skaters of all abilities and ages plus the Moor Lane skatepark is gaining popularity.  Therefore, we decided it was time to take it one step further and open a shop in the heart of Bedford.”

Rob runs the shop with the help of apprentice, Royce Anese and veteran skater, Kizz Kisby – and all three are passionate about sharing their love of skate sports with a wider audience.  Royce was instrumental in getting the Moor Lane skatepark opened in August 2017 and is currently undertaking a sports leadership course. Meanwhile, Kizz has been skating since 1974 and has broken numerous bones in his body over the prevailing 43 years. He currently commutes to the shop on a board he bought in 1987 and is a leading member of the Skaters over 50 group.

“Skating attracts everyone – from 6 year olds to 56 year olds,” said Royce.  “The sport is very inclusive and non-judgemental and the other skaters are really supportive of newcomers.  We always encourage female skaters too; everyone’s welcome. The Moor Lane skate park has been really popular and it’s only a matter of time before there will be some pro riders from Bedford.”

Between 25th November and January 2018, Rollback World will be holding mini-launch events for each roller sport discipline, with December seeing scooter demos. Keep an eye on the Rollback World facebook page for more dates and details and pop along to one of their pop up skate events at the Bunyan Sports Centre.   They run training sessions as well as regular roller discos – so if you haven’t worn a pair of rollerboots since 1986, now’s the time to brush up your skills and impress/embarrass your kids. Better get your skates on…
