Roll up to Riverside Bedford!

The official launch of Riverside Bedford may not be taking place until 2nd & 3rd September, but there’s still plenty to see, do and eat there.  We took a Sunday morning stroll along the river to report back on what’s open.  Here’s your handy Clanger guide to Riverside Bedford:

Vue Cinema

The new town-centre Vue cinema has seven screens with VIP and luxury seating available and will show mainstream films, plus NT Live screenings.  With limited parking (£2/hour, two hours’ free on a Saturday, free parking all day Sunday), there is plenty of nearby alternative parking available at River Street, Greyfriars, Prebend Street, Melbourne Road and Bedford College.  If parking at River Street, get your ticket validated by the cinema staff and you’ll enjoy four hours’ parking for £1.

You can check out what’s on and screening times here:

Alongside Bedford Film Festival, Bedford Film Society, the existing Cineworld at Aspects and screenings at the Quarry Theatre and the Place, there’s plenty of choice and variety in our little town, whatever your movie taste.

Gourmet Burger Kitchen

Located beneath the Vue cinema, Gourmet Burger Kitchen does what it says on the tin.  Established in Battersea in 2001, GBK now have over 80 restaurants around the UK.  100% prime beef hand-crafted burgers are cooked to order, with sauces made from scratch in their kitchens each day.  The Riverside Bedford restaurant has outside seating, making the most of its riverside location.  Will it rival Herd for Bedford’s burger affection?  Time will tell…

Whether you’re dropping in for some post-work frozen margaritas or taking the family out for dinner, MEXIco hopes to be the go-to restaurant for Bedford’s hombres y mujeres.  Of all of Riverside Bedford’s restaurants, MEXIco definitely has the most eye-catching decor, and with an award-winning chef behind the menu, there are high hopes for the authentic dishes.  For fans of Mexican food, Bedford also boasts El Picante and Baja.

Miller & Carter Steakhouse

Serving 30 day-aged British and Irish steaks, Miller & Carter pride themselves on being about the best in the business. The Riverside Bedford restaurant is conveniently situated beneath the cinema, so the perfect place for a pre-or-post-film meal.

Some may say that opening an Italian restaurant in Bedford is like taking coals to Newcastle, but with its riverside location and proximity to the new cinema, Zizzi is sure to attract plenty of customers.  We’re certain that
Pizzaria Santaniello, Spaghetti John’s, Higgins Pantry, Amici, That’s Amore, Riobello, Mama Mia’s, the Cappuccino Bar and 2 Like Us bistro will continue to draw in their dedicated fans, plus new customers who are visiting Bedford for the first time.

The highly-anticipated arrival of Wagamama in Bedford has not disappointed its eager fans. The Japanese-inspired restaurant has been serving fast-paced Asian cuisine since 1992 and will no doubt attract everyone from families to college students.  Feedback since the launch has been over-whelmingly positive and it’s to its benefit that our very own
Hokuhoku off Tavistock Street is closed for maternity leave until 20th September, giving ramen fans their noodle fix!
