This month, The Future Sessions will bring four of the area’s best new and emerging young bands to Esquires, celebrating original music from the next generation.
On Friday, 27 September, Daybreak, What Killed the Dinosaurs (WKTD), The Greensands and Matty Ram will take to the stage at the legendary live music venue, Esquires, which has played host to the early gigs of the likes of Elbow, Kae Tempest, Coldplay, Idles, Tom Grennan and Lizzo.
Promoters, blender, are returning with their first live event after a long hiatus and audiences can expect a night of alt-rock with four explosive and unique sounds.
Of course, overnight fame doesn’t happen overnight and each of the bands and artists has put in the hard yards to reach this point on the all-important grassroots circuit. All four have been pulling in good crowds in St Albans, Hitchin, Milton Keynes, Ampthill and Luton and are looking increasingly comfortable and ready for what comes next.
Daybreak and WKTD (What Killed the Dinosaurs) released debut EPs in ‘22 and WKTD followed up with a second EP, Garden, this month, both bands reaching listeners in good numbers on all the streaming platforms.

The Greensands released two singles this year and had a busy summer of live shows including a festival slot at the massive CarFest. Matty Ram has been building a following around his Luton connections – especially Luton Town FC – and his new single ‘Tennis Courts’ is out now with the accompanying video kicking up a storm on YouTube.

“Working with The Greensands exposed me to a load of new bands. Bands with guitars and loads of attitude and some decent songs” said blender’s Alan Cooley.
“At its heart, blender is all about new music and it seemed like a good time to jump back in and try a new night. There is a buzz around these bands – loads of kids are into live music and loads of them in bands.
“It reminded me of my time back in the eighties. We just need to see crowds supporting grassroots bands, like we did back then.”
