Tesco Brickhill will reopen next week

Tesco Express Brickhill New

Tesco’s Express store in Brickhill will reopen again next week, almost 10 weeks since it suddenly closed for what bosses say was to “carry out maintenance work.”

Back in June Tesco said they hoped to reopen “within two weeks and we will keep the community updated on the opening date.”

But despite many customers and locals offering suggestions for the closure, Tesco remained tight lipped on why the store was closed and why it has taken so long to complete the work.

However, a spokesperson did recently tell the Bedford Independent it was to fix some beams.

Now the shopping chain say the store will reopen at 8am on 27 August.

When asked, again, what the maintenance work involved and why it had taken eight weeks longer than expected, a Tesco spokesperson simply said: “We’re excited to reopen our Brickhill Express at 8am on 27 August and to serve our customers in Bedford.”

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
