Switch to direct debit payment to receive your Council Tax rebate quicker

Bedford Borough Hall

Residents of Bedford Borough can receive their £150 Council Tax quicker if they sign up to pay by direct debit by 1 April.

The government rebate is part of an initiative to help households with rising energy costs and is available to anyone living in Council Tax bands A – to D (as their main home).

Anyone signed up to pay their Council Tax by direct debit will receive this payment automatically in April 2022.

You can register to pay by direct debit via the Council’s website.

Those who are not paying by direct debit will need to complete an online form to give the Council their bank details and enable this payment to be made.

To be alerted when this form is available on the Council’s website, please email 150energy@bedford.gov.uk.

Cllr Michael Headley, Portfolio Holder for Finance said “We are really keen to get this funding out to people as quickly as possible.

“Paying Council Tax by direct debit is the simplest and most convenient way to pay, and means we can make this payment to you automatically. Visit bedford.gov.uk/CouncilTax and sign up by 1 April 2022.”

For further information please visit bedford.gov.uk/CouncilTax.

If you are not eligible for this scheme, further funding will also be available to householders that do not qualify. Details will follow on the Council’s website.
