A lifetime of quiet passion hidden away across six barns in Bedford Borough has come to light following the discovery of 150 classic cars, boats and tractors.
The extraordinary local collection, accumulated over decades by a single prolific collector who has now passed away, is one of the largest barn finds ever uncovered in the UK.

Secret trove
The collection remained unseen by locals for decades before being uncovered in the Bedfordshire countryside.
It includes rare motoring history sourced over a lifetime from UK auctions, vehicle importers and dealers nationwide.
Estimated to fetch around £250,000 in total, every item in the vast hoard will go under the hammer without a reserve price at the Cheffins Cambridge Vintage Sale on Saturday, 17 October 2026.
Rare finds
Among the 70 classic cars discovered in the barns is a 1928 Morris Cowley two-seat tourer, valued between £3,000 and £4,000, alongside a 1935 Daimler Special sports tourer kit car.
Other unusual finds include a 1969 Morris 1800 Utility pick-up imported from New Zealand, a 1985 Austin Metro pick-up conversion, a commercial 1952 Morris Cowley van and several Land Rovers.
The hidden trove also includes a rare piece of nautical history: a Healey Marine Sprite speedboat in need of restoration.
Reportedly used by the Healey family as a testbed for future marine engines, the vessel is estimated to fetch between £2,000 and £3,000 alongside a Microplus 501 river cruiser.
In addition to the road and water craft, more than 60 classic and vintage tractors were stashed across the site, including rare Field Marshall, Ferguson and Fordson models.
Unseen history
Ted Shepherd, associate at Cheffins, said: “This is one of the most exciting barn finds we’ve seen to date. There are some really unusual examples, from military vehicles to collectors’ items.
“The Healey Marine Sprite is particularly exciting, reportedly having been held by the Healey family as a testbed for future engines. This really is the Austin Healey of the water.
“With cars dating from the 1920s to the 1980s, there are examples from Ford, Austin, Morris, Vauxhall, Rover and more – meaning there’s something for everyone.
“We anticipate this sale to create plenty of excitement in both the classic car and tractor collecting circles.”
