Scannable ‘yellow bracelet’ will give instant access to patient records

A scannable yellow bracelet, containing patient records, will soon be available to all people who receive care, either at home or in residential, giving instant access to their medical information.

Developed by Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care System (BLMK ICS), this innovative scheme gives health and care professionals access to information about a person’s care and the support they have available at home in an emergency.

The bracelet can be scanned in a hospital, or by ambulance crews and community or care teams, to avoid unnecessary hospital attendance or admission, reduce a patient’s length of stay in hospital and help people maintain their independence at home.

Felicity Cox, Executive Lead for the BLMK Integrated Care System and Accountable Officer for Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Clinical Commissioning Group said: “We live in a culture of instant information and it is wonderful that this is now being introduced to health and care.

“The Yellow Bracelets ensure that people can get the right care at the right time, which will improve outcomes for some of the most vulnerable people in our community.

“By integrating health and social care services in this way, residents receive a more effective service from health providers and it has the potential to improve the care that  residents receive and could help people live independently at home.”

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
