A new and inclusive youth choir is launching in Bedford this May, aimed at giving a voice to primary-aged children in years four to six.
Bedford Sings has appointed Charlotte Brosnan as the founding choral director of the new Bedford Sings Youth Choir, which it hopes to expand into a ‘family’ of youth choirs over the next five years.

Charlotte’s appointment demonstrates Bedford Sings’ vision to develop and celebrate singing in the town through the creation of a high-quality youth choir programme alongside its bi-annual festival.
The new choral director has worked with leading music organisations across the UK and Europe and has experience as a conductor, educator and workshop leader. She has built an international career combining performance, choral leadership and music education.
An ambassador for Britten-Pears Arts, Charlotte currently conducts London Youth Choir South West and has contributed to major performances, including London Youth Choir for the First Night of the Proms in 2025 and preparing the ripieno choir for Bach’s St Matthew Passion at the Royal Festival Hall with The Bach Choir.
Earlier in her career, she sang professionally with the internationally renowned a cappella quintet Apollo5, touring the USA, Asia and Europe while leading workshops and masterclasses for young singers.
Inspiring young singers
The new choir has grown from the success of recent Bedford Sings collaborative projects with local schools.
Founder director and Bedford Sings chair, Duncan Fraser, said the projects had shown a strong appetite among school children for singing and that the organisation was “thrilled” to welcome Brosnan.
“She brings exceptional musical expertise together with a deep commitment to inspiring young singers, particularly those who may never have sung in a choir before,” said Duncan.
“We’re excited to see the choir flourish under her leadership.”
