Queen’s Park menopause event aims to end “suffering in silence”

Three expert speakers will be on hand to talk all things menopause at a community event in Queen’s Park this week.

Organised by Anita Powell, founder of Menopause Alliance and Cllr Nesreen Akhtar, the event on Friday 18 March aims to raise awareness about all things perimenopause, menopause and beyond.

Speakers include BEDOC menopause clinic lead, Lesley Quinn; obstetric and gynaecology Registrar, Emily Davy and consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, Thanga Katimada.

“BEDOC is delighted to be represented at this event,” said Lesley.

“Our menopause service is very popular and highly regarded in the community and it is important that we continue to spread the word that specialist care is available on the NHS in this area.

“I would like to encourage anyone who thinks they may be experiencing symptoms of menopause or perimenopause to come along to the event to find out more.

“It’s vital we break down the stigma around menopause and events like this are a great way to start conversations and help anyone suffering in silence.”

The event will take place between 5.30pm and 6.30pm on Friday 18 March Queens Park Community Centre within All Saints Church on Marlborough Road.

No need to book, guests can just turn up. For more information call 07772 662551 or check out the Menopause Alliance Facebook page.

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
