Young people in Bedford are gaining skills for life, making new friends, and experiencing real adventure, thanks to the thriving Putnoe Scouts.
In response to overwhelming demand, the group has launched a third Scout Troop for boys and girls aged 10 to 14.
The new troop, known as the ‘Leopards,’ has already welcomed enthusiastic members, joining over 200 young people aged 4 to 14 who are part of the wider Putnoe Scout Group.
From abseiling and coding to sleepouts and water sports, the Scouts offer over 200 activities, helping young people build confidence, resilience, and a sense of community.
Michelle, Putnoe’s lead volunteer, said: “Come along and join in the fun. Volunteering with Putnoe Scouts is a great way to gain skills, meet new people, and build confidence. Whatever your background or ability, there’s a role for everyone.”
The Leopards
Putnoe Scouts have also been active fundraisers, raising money for St John’s Hospice through cake sales, pizza nights, and sponsored sleep-outs. And with camping trips and water-based activities on the horizon, the adventure shows no signs of slowing down.
National Chief Scout, explorer and TV presenter Dwayne Fields, praised the expansion: “I’m incredibly pleased that Putnoe Scouts have opened a third Scout Troop (the Leopards).
“This means even more young people in Bedford will have the chance to build friendships, discover their talents, and find their place in the world.”
Dwayne, who has explored the North Pole and Galápagos Islands, added, “What made the difference for me was the kindness of the volunteers and the sense of belonging I felt as a Scout. I’m so proud that Putnoe is offering this same opportunity to the next generation.”
The group is now calling on adults in the community to step up and volunteer.
