Bedford Blues will face Cambridge in a pre-season friendly this summer as they get ready for their forthcoming Championship campaign

The match at Goldington Road at 7:45pm on 23rd August will see Richie Williams lads, who are being coached by former Blues’ man Dan Richmond

The town sides have a met many times before in pre-season friendlies over the years, but the most recent was seven years ago when the Blues won 77-5 away

Back in 2012 tries came from James Stephenson (4), Gregor Gillanders, Don Barrell, Neil Cochrane, Luke Baldwin, Scott Spurling, Joe Vandermolen, Mark Kohler, Sacha Harding and Josh Bassett.

Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: “We’ve got a huge season ahead of us with a number of new players arriving at the club so it is important to get some game time under our belts before the campaign kicks off.

“Cambridge have recruited very well over the summer both on and off the pitch, so we are expecting a very tough challenge against a talented team who will be looking to have a real crack in National One this season.

“The game offers us a chance to assess how far we’ve come over pre-season in terms of skills and fitness as well trying out some new combinations to see how everyone fits in.

“It will also be a great chance for both sets of supporters to see how their respective teams are shaping up before the start of the season”.

Tickets for the game will be available from the Blues website very soon with more fixtures will also to be announced in the coming weeks.
