Bedfordshire Police are appealing for witnesses after a man suffered severe stab wounds in Bedford.
Officers were called just after 10.30pm last night (Tuesday) to an address on Elstow Road, where they found the 33-year-old victim.
He was treated by ambulance staff and taken to hospital, where his condition is said to be life-threatening.
Police believe he was attacked in the link road between Elstow Road and Sandhurst Road, over the railway line.
Detectives say five men on bikes and scooters were seen entering the alleyway and then running out, and they urgently need to identify them.
Detective Inspector Clare Steel-Jessop of Bedfordshire Police said: “This was a very serious attack that has left a man fighting for his life.
“It’s extremely important that we trace the five men seen running away from the vicinity, and I would appeal for anyone with information to come forward as a matter of urgency.”
The link road remains closed to traffic up to the footbridge while investigations continue, with officers carrying out house-to-house enquiries.
