Police called to suspected gun sighting in Bedford

A member of the public contacted Bedfordshire Police at 1pm this afternoon (Tuesday 21 May), believing they’d seen someone with a gun near Bedford Central Library in Harpur Square.

Officers were deployed towards Prebend Street and pursued the suspect before apprehending him.

He was found to be unarmed and released without charge.

A spokesperson for Bedfordshire Police said: “We’d always encourage the public to contact us if they think someone is armed, rather than trying to deal with the threat themselves.”
