Over 270 streets preparing for Doorstep Carols at 6pm tonight…

Sing safely and keep your distance this year...

Over 270 streets have registered to take part in this evening’s Doorstep Carols, a chance for friends and neighbours to share some socially distanced, tier 4-appropriate festive cheer.

At 6pm, streets across the Borough will ring out with Jingle Bells, Deck the Halls and We Wish you a Merry Christmas.

Residents are encouraged to add their own accompaniment with instruments, backing tracks or meticulously rehearsed harmonies.

And please do share your festive photos and films using the hashtag #doorstepcarolsbedford.

There’s still time to take part, you just need to download the PDF which includes song sheets for all three festive tunes.

“We’ve been completely overwhelmed with the number of people registering to take part,” said organiser, Ben Woodfine.

“I originally imagined it might be a few streets in the area where I live, but it’s really gathered momentum.

“We hope everyone enjoys a safe sing-along this evening and wish Bedford Borough residents and Merry Christmas and a happy new year.”

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
