As we exclusively revealed earlier this month, the much-anticipated official opening of Bedford’s Oasis Beach Pool will take place this half term with a Totally Tropical Beach Party.

A steel band, limbo dancers, competitions and a mocktail ‘Tiki Bar’ will be part of the celebrations on Tuesday, 28 May from 11am until 3pm.

The pool, which originally opened in the 1990s has been closed for an extended period after it fell into disrepair.

New operators, GLL, a charitable social enterprise operating as ‘Better’ undertook essential renovations and Bedford Borough Council has invested around half a million pounds in bringing the venue back into use.

Updates include improvements to plant and equipment for increased energy efficiency and longevity, as well as redecoration to provide a brighter and more welcoming atmosphere.

Essential infrastructure such as boilers, heating, cooling, and customer facilities have been updated and replaced.

A new reception and shop will greet swimmers as they arrive, the entire building has undergone a deep clean and new party rooms and multi-use spaces have been created.

The much-loved leisure destination will be welcoming customers old and new to the ‘lazy river’, flumes, baby pool, leisure pool and jacuzzi and the general manager, Ricky Whiting, has said they cannot wait to welcome the local community back through the doors next week.

“At Bedford Oasis Beach Pool we can’t wait to throw our doors open for our community fun day on 28 May which we are calling our Totally Tropical Beach Party,” said Ricky

“It’s been long awaited and we know the pool has a special place in the hearts and minds of local people in Bedford.

“Many happy days have been spent here and we want to ensure under our management that this will again be the case. Better are committed to delivering a first-class service and we aim to delight the people of Bedford and beyond.”

Future investment includes the creation of party rooms and there will be new caterers on site.

Totally Tropical celebrations

To help the celebrations get off to a flying start, Better are offering kids entry for £1 to the ‘Aqua Play’ session from 12pm – 5pm.

Cllr Sarah Gallagher (Conservative), portfolio holder for customer experience, said: “The Oasis Beach Pool re-opening marks a wholesale improvement in Bedford Borough’s leisure service.

“Under Better’s management it is truly going to serve the needs of the local community for many years to come, providing more happy memories and family fun.”
