New solar farm could provide “unique opportunity” for Wymington

A proposed development would provide a “unique opportunity” to co-locate a solar farm with existing renewable technologies in Wymington, developers have claimed.

Bedford Borough Council has received a planning application to install a solar farm, with associated infrastructure and landscaping, to the southeast of the Goosey Lodge Industrial Estate

The applicants said this is a “well-established” industrial site which specialises in the design, manufacturing, and installation of medium to heavy plant equipment for food and waste industries, waste management, processing, and the generation of renewable energy.

If approved the 10.6 hectares site would comprise of an array of 15,968 ground-mounted solar panels.

The applicants said the export capacity of the development would be approximately 10.4MW of renewable electricity.

The applicant’s planning consultants said their client has “considerable” experience in renewable energy generation in the local area, including the newly approved solar farm to the north of the site (22/01520/MAF).

More information can be found on the council’s planning portal, reference 23/02517/MAF.

The overall consultation expiry date is Saturday, 20 January 2024.
