The Liberal Democrat candidate for the Wootton and Kempston Rural Ward says a new medical centre is her top priority.
Sue Abood said she is standing as a candidate in May’s local elections to serve the community and to campaign on the issue of Wootton’s Doctors’ Surgery.
“A new medical centre was promised many years ago, and despite a large increase in the number of residents the surgery is still operating from a small, very old portacabin,” she said.
“Patients also have to travel into Bedford to the North Wing of the Hospital for blood tests, roughly a 10 mile round trip.
“I have recently set up a petition which is proving to be very popular, residents can sign it at bedfordlibdems.org.uk/WoottonGPs,” she said.
As well as setting up the petition, Sue has been out knocking on doors to learn more about their concerns.
“Many residents have been generous with their time,” she said.
“And have been talking about issues that are important to them that they would like to see improved e.g. the doctors’ surgery and road safety.”
Sue has been a borough resident for seven years, and she admits that while she may be a newcomer to local politics, she is a “fast learner” and does have experience in serving the public.
“I’ve been a school governor in two schools for over nine years, holding the school leadership teams to account,” she said.
“I am not afraid to ask difficult questions and will do whatever is necessary to act in the best interests of the ward.”
