A site manager working on a new homes development in Shortstown has won a top regional award for build quality in a national competition for housebuilders.
Alan Holmes, project manager at Bellway’s New Cardington Gate development, was named regional winner in the Large Builder category at the National House Building Council’s Pride in the Job Awards for the Central region.

The ceremony took place in Milton Keynes earlier this month (7 November), where Alan also collected his third Seal of Excellence.
Career highlight
Alan, from Henlow in Bedfordshire, has worked for Bellway for 14 years and has now won nine Pride in the Job Quality Awards, which form the first stage of the national competition. He has also trained assistant site managers who have gone on to become Pride in the Job winners themselves.
He said: “I am absolutely over the moon to have won the regional award at this year’s Pride in the Job competition. This really is the highlight of my career.
“I am so proud of the whole team at New Cardington Gate, who have worked every single day to do their best and achieve the highest standards. This has been a massive team effort as everyone has to be involved and commit 100 per cent to every single aspect of the job.
“At its heart, this job is all about consistently handing over quality new homes to our customers and to have that external recognition of the quality we have achieved is really something special.”
Further recognition

Friday’s awards ceremony was also successful for Bellway’s Northern Home Counties division, with another site manager, Dan St Hilaire, receiving a Seal of Excellence for his work at New Cardington Fields, also in Shortstown.
Alan and Dan were among just 15 site managers to receive a Seal of Excellence in the Central region this year.
Alan will now go forward to be judged against other regional winners from across the UK in the Pride in the Job Supreme Awards, which are due to be presented in January.
Iain Hunter, construction director for Bellway Northern Home Counties, said: “Winning a regional award is an exceptional achievement and we would like to congratulate Alan and his team at New Cardington Gate for the dedication and commitment they have shown to achieve this.
“We are also very proud of our Seal of Excellence winner who is a multiple Pride in the Job award winner thanks to his commitment to quality, day in, day out.
“Build quality is one of the key pillars of Bellway’s Better with Bellway sustainability strategy and these site managers are exceptional role models, instilling a culture of pride in the job on their sites, particularly among the trainees and assistant site managers, who will be the next generation of site managers, building the quality homes of the future.”
