Bedford Town sealed the perfect bank holiday weekend with a 1-0 away win at bottom club AFC Telford, climbing to tenth in National League North.
George Moncur’s third-minute strike was enough to seal two wins in three days, following the Eagles’ 3-1 home triumph against Spennymoor Town at The Eyrie on Saturday (29 August).

Despite the Shropshire rain, there were no lightning strikes to disrupt proceedings at the SEAH Stadium, and it took just three minutes for Bedford to find what would become the only goal of the game.
Moncur, who now has three goals in his last three appearances, gained the ball in the right channel, beating Zak Lily with ease before firing in past Telford goalkeeper, Lewys Benjamin from the tightest of angles.
It would turn into the winner as Bedford Town soaked up pressure for the remaining 87 minutes.
Rio Owen saw a shot fly over the bar for a Telford side who initially struggled to get going, while David Hicks had Bedford’s best chance to make it two, only for his effort to be denied by a mix of Jack Lambert and Benjamin.
Eno Nto also narrowly headed over, while Telford’s star man, Matthew Stenson and Owen also saw headers miss the target as Bedford Town went into the break one goal ahead.
Telford can’t find equaliser
The second half chances largely fell to the home side, but they couldn’t find a way past an inspired Laurie Walker in the Bedford goal.
Stenson was once again front and centre, firing over in the early stages of the second period, while Dion Kelly-Evans also missed the target as the pressure continued to mount for the visitors.
Lambert then saw a header cleared, before the midfielder somehow couldn’t scramble home an effort at the back post; kept out by Walker and a cascade of orange away shirts, as Bedford held on to their lead.
Walker also did well to tip over a goal bound strike from Remi Walker, before a penalty shout was waived away by the referee as Telford continued to pile forward in search of a valuable equaliser.
That equaliser would never arrive as Orrin Pendley’s late effort was also kept out, while the Eagles navigated six minutes of injury time expertly to hold on to a precious 1-0 victory, their third in six opening league games.
Harry Smart’s side rise to tenth, while AFC Telford are left bottom of the pile in 24th, without a win yet this season.
Bedford Town return to action on Saturday (5 September) as they host 23rd-placed, Radcliffe at The Eyrie.
