Nadine Dorries appeared on Channel 4 News to defend the PM's debunked comments about Sir Keir Starmer

The Mid Beds Conservative MP, Nadine Dorries, was trending on social media today after she defended the Prime Minister on Channel 4 News yesterday (Monday).

In the widely-shared clip, Culture Secretary, Ms Dorries tells Channel 4 News interviewer, Krishnan Guru-Murphy that “the prime minister tells the truth.”

Her comment is in reference to a previously fact-checked and debunked lie about the leader of the Opposition, Sir Keir Starmer which Boris Johnson referenced in the House of Commons yesterday.

Referring to Boris Johnson’s allegation that Keir Starmer was responsible for not prosecuting Jimmy Savile during his tenure as the Director of Public Prosecutions, Krishan Guru-Murphy asked Ms Dorries, “How can you have a prime minister repeating fake news like that?”

Shaking her head and shrugging, there is a considerable pause before Ms Dorries says that she doesn’t know anything of the background of Keir Starmer.

The interview concludes with Ms Dorries saying: “The prime minister tells the truth.”

The Bedford Independent contacted Ms Dorries for a comment, but she did not respond in time for our deadline.
