The three lifts at River Street multi-storey car park in Bedford town centre will be getting an upgrade when work starts on Monday, 19 February.
The lifts have reached the end of their lifespan and need comprehensive modernisation. The work is expected to be completed by mid-July, although it will be phased, with lifts 1 and 2 being upgraded between now and May, and lift 3 being taken out of service once lifts 1 and 2 are complete.
A council spokesperson said the works will improve reliability and performance resulting in a better experience for users of the car park.
Councillor Andrea Spice, portfolio holder for town centres and planning at Bedford Borough Council, said: “We understand the importance of reliable and accessible parking facilities in Bedford town centre.
“This investment in River Street Car Park demonstrates our commitment to providing a high-quality experience for all users. The upgraded lifts will be smoother, quieter, and more energy-efficient, and will offer improved reliability for years to come.”
Additional communications will follow throughout the works advising of specific dates and the switchover of works.
