Letters: How long do we wait for dangerous paving in Kempston to be fixed?

Dear Editor,

On 1/6/23 l wrote to the Kempston town clerk informing the council of the dangerous conditions existing between the disabled parking area at the side of the paved area leading to the supermarket and open area.

There are loose paving slabs that have been marked with fading yellow crosses that will trip up people, they have been like this for months and are especially dangerous as it is the route for some disabled people who use that parking area to the shops.

The reply l received was to tell me that it was not Kempston Town Council’s responsibility but the Borough’s and that they were aware of the problem and would discuss it at the next council meeting on 13 June.

Well nothing appears to have changed, the situation is still as dangerous, so my question is how long do Kempston wait before someone falls and has a serious accident, then sues and costs are incurred?

Either get on and do the job and bill the Borough, or make sure the area is closed off properly to prevent someone having a nasty fall.

Better still take on the might of Bedford Borough’s legal department and threaten them with negligence under health and safety, but don’t just leave it like it is, it is a disgrace.

Yours sincerely
Tim Hatton
Kempston
