To the north of Bedford, along the A6, sits the village of Clapham which dates back as an agricultural village from before the Norman Conquest.

Home to Bedford County Golf Club it is within easy reach of Bedford’s amenities and the large Aldi and Sainsbury’s to the north of Bedford.

It has a post office, Tesco Express, pubs, village hall and served by a mobile library.

There is a primary school – Ursula Taylor Church of England Primary School and two churches, one of which – the Church of St Thomas of Canterbury –is a grade 1 listed building.



Ravensden and Wilden are rural villages that sit to the east of Clapham. Ravensden borders Mowsbury Park and has a primary school, pub, village hall and church.

Wilden (with a population of under 400 in the last census) has a Church of England Primary School situated next to a 14th century Church of St Nicholas.

A pretty brook - South Brook -runs through the village and the village pub has recently reopened with a pub garden that backs on to the brook.

South of Wilden is Renhold, which, like many Bedfordian villages consists of a small number of hamlets.

These have recently been added to with new housing developments. With two churches, pub, post office, Renhold Primary School, the village hall provides a base for a variety of social clubs including Bridge, WI and Line Dancing.

Bolnhurst about 7 miles north of Bedford sits between Bedford and Kimbolton, a key attraction is The Plough pub housed in a 17th century Jacobean building.

The village also hosts an annual Country Fayre with traditional tractors and cars. North of Bolnhurst, Keysoe hosted equestrian training teams for the 2012 Olympics and Para Olympics in The College Equestrian Centre.
