A Bedford photographer has captured an incredible mix of lightning, dark clouds, sunshine and a rainbow in the skies over the Borough last night (Tuesday).
Daniel Churchill, who shares his photography work on his Instagram account @DanielDChurchill took the photo around 8:30 pm from an upstairs window near Goldington Road.
Watching the storm roll in, he used a website to track its direction and intensity. Once he realised that there was a chance of a rainbow he set his iPhone up on the windowsill and started filming.
While pleased with the result he says it was down to “a bit of luck”.
“When the sun broke through the clouds, the rainbow formed on cue. I simply popped my iPhone on the windowsill pointed at one half of the arch, and recorded the video, 30 seconds later, lightning struck.”
Daniel used 2x magnification, locked infinite focus and reduced exposure for filming.
To get the photo, I extracted 10 frames of the video (like hitting pause at the right moment) and layered them in GIMP.
Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...
We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.
We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.
But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.
We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
