- Job description
The workload is varied, involving the delivery of OT assessment and intervention in acute care to support discharge within the inpatient setting and the administration of Pulmonary Rehabilitation programmes run by Bedford Hospital in the community. This will also include anxiety management, CBT and motivational interviewing, home visits/assessment; telephone support, onward referrals for patients living with a long term lung disease.
You will be expected to carry your own case load both in the community and on the ward for Early Supported discharge (EDS).
You will be expected to take an active role in service development, both initiating ideas and implementing changes.
Excellent and adaptable verbal communication skills are necessary as you will work with patients and families who have very different needs. Evidence of team working and a desire to work with people is therefore essential.
The successful applicant will be working with other senior therapists and skilled technicians in order to deliver quality care to respiratory patients.
You must be hardworking and keen and be committed to lifelong learning.
Due to the community nature of this post it will be essential that you are able to independently travel to the rehab venues and home visits, and be physically able to carry and deliver equipment.
What about the department I will join?
You will be working within a flexible and friendly therapy team but also working closely with the wider Multidisciplinary Teams in the respiratory service (Respiratory Nurses and Consultants) and palliative service (eg Macmillan Nurses).
