Hospital Radio Bedford’s six-week residency at the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Shop on Harpur Street draws to a close on Saturday (18 December) with a final flourish of live festive broadcasting.

Since 13 November, Hospital Radio Bedford (HRB) has been entertaining online listeners, town centre shoppers, Hospital patients and staff from their mobile studio in the window of the annual pop-up Poppy Shop.

The team have welcomed star guests to the airwaves, including Eric Masih, The High Sheriff of Bedfordshire, PCC Festus Akinbusoye and Helen Nellis, the Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire.

Joining HRB presenters this Saturday for a yuletide chat will be the Bishop of Bedford, Richard Atkinson and Bedford and Kempston MP, Mohammad Yasin.

“These six weeks of live broadcasting from the Poppy Shop have been fantastic,” said Laura Taylor, chair of Hospital Radio Bedford.

“It’s been wonderful to see the shop busy raising money for such a good cause and to have shoppers engage with our presenters and for them to see and hear just what Hospital Radio Bedford is all about.”

HRB also extended a heartfelt thank you to the Royal British Legion shop volunteers for making them feel so welcome.

HRB presenter and stalwart of the Poppy Shop broadcasts, Barry Tappenden, said, “It’ll be great to finish on a high, putting a smile on people’s faces as they go down Harpur Street doing their Christmas shopping.

“And you never know, we might even get the Bishop to sing us a song.”

Saturday’s live broadcast will be on the air between 10am and 4pm and you can listen live here.  Click on the ‘Listen Now’ button or ask your smart speaker to ‘Play Hospital Radio Bedford.’
