East Midlands Railway has established a dedicated support line for passengers and families directly affected by Friday’s collision.

The helpline is staffed by trained colleagues who can assist with queries, including the return of personal belongings.

From Monday, those seeking additional support can also be referred to the British Red Cross, where appropriate.

Laura Scott, head of crisis response at the British Red Cross, said: “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the tragic incident in Bedford.

“We know emergencies like this affect people in different ways, and we are working closely with East Midlands Railway to provide ongoing practical and emotional support.

“Our telephone support line is open for anyone who needs help, and our trained volunteers can provide a listening ear and practical guidance.”

The helpline can be reached on 0333 212 5934 and is open:

  • Monday to Friday: 7am to 8pm
  • Saturday: 8am to 8pm
  • Sunday: 10am to 8pm

Passengers who were due to travel on Friday but chose not to complete their journey can apply for a ticket refund through East Midlands Railway.

Those who travelled and experienced delays of more than 15 minutes may also be entitled to compensation through the operator’s Delay Repay scheme.
