Helen Davies, a top local butcher in Bedfordshire has reached the finals of the National Women in Meat Awards.
The director of Woburn Country Foods which runs the Butcher’s Counter at The Barn, Cardington, has been shortlisted in the Food Service Category by Meat Management Magazine.
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on 16 November, celebrating the work of women in the meat industry – where they are still in the minority.

– She has increased the turnover from £250k to £2.75m
– The business now runs three butcher’s shops including the Barn at Cardington.
– Woburn Country Foods now employs 20 staff and supplies over 100 restaurants, hotels, pubs and tourist attractions.
Helen said: “It can be very challenging trying to keep all our customers happy, managing the team and sourcing the best local produce.
“The industry is dominated by men but there have been many more women joining in recent years.”
