A Kempston-based hair stylist has launched a charity fundraiser, with the prize of free haircuts for a year.
Marika Coluccino, a stylist at Mario’s Hair Design in Kempston, is selling raffle tickets for £10 and the lucky winner can claim one haircut a month for the whole year.
All money raised will be donated to charities supporting Bedford’s underprivileged children.
“Each year in the Harpur Shopping Centre they do a ‘wishing tree’,” said Marika.
“On the tree are the names of children with their ages and you are able to pick a name off the tree and buy that child a present.
“Each year I take part and always pick two names – a girl and a boy – in the hope of making their Christmas a little more special.”
From now until 5 December, Marika is selling £10 raffle tickets and with the money raised, she will be buying many more than two presents this year.
Due to coronavirus restrictions, the Harpur Centre have not been able to confirm whether the Wishing Tree will be in place this year. In the event that it is felt to be too unsafe, all toys will be donated directly to Bedford charity, FACES.
“It’s been a tough year for all of us,” said Marika. “I would love to bring a smile to as many children’s faces as possible this Christmas, so please join in and you may be the lucky winner.”
