Green bin collections resume

Garden waste

Bedford Borough Council is reminding residents that garden waste collections will resume on Friday 1 March.

Don’t forget to put your green lidded garden waste bin out alongside your recycling bin by 6am on your next recycling collection day. You can check your collection days on the Council’s online collection day finder.

“Please make sure all of your garden waste is contained and loose within your green lidded bin,” said a Council spokesperson.  “The crews will not remove any garden waste left out next to your bin.”

Not sure what you can put in the green bin? Here’s a handy reminder:

Yes Please: No Thanks:
– Grass cuttings – Food waste
– Plants and weeds – DIY waste eg soil, rubble, wood
– Flowers – Pet waste including bedding
– Prunings – Invasive weeds eg Japanese Knotweed
– Hedge clippings – Plant pots
– Leaves and bark – Plastic bags or sacks
– Pond plants – Garden furnture or fencing

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
