Bedford-based brewery, Brewpoint, is turning its Garden Bar into a pop-up thrift shop this month, to raise money for a children’s cancer charity.
On Saturday, 18 May, the brewery’s first-ever Thriftathon will take place, in aid of their charity partner, Teenage Cancer Trust and you don’t have to wait until then to take part.
Brewpoint is accepting donations from the public, so if you’ve got clothes in your wardrobe from the days when ‘Corona’ just meant a refreshing Mexican beer, it’s time to send them to a new home for a good cause.
“To make a success of the Thriftathon, we need your help,” said Ed Robinson, Wells & Co.’s sustainability manager.
“The Brewpoint team are now ready to receive your donations of clean, good-condition second-hand clothing. Adult or children’s clothing, vintage styles, out-of-season items, pairs of shoes – we want it all.
“Accessories are also welcomed; bags, non-prescription sunglasses, belts, hats, scarves, etc. will all be gratefully received.”
So, this week, dig deep through your chest of drawers, bring any kit in need of a new home into Brewpoint and drop it into the dedicated collection basket in the Taproom.
The whole Thriftathon day will be based entirely around the concept of sharing and sustainability. All proceeds will support the invaluable work of Teenage Cancer Trust, charity partners of local family business Wells & Co. (who operate Brewpoint).
With around 30% of unwanted clothes ending up in UK landfill sites every year, you can feel really good about doing something positive for both people and planet.
Entry on Saturday, 18 May is free and there will be live music from country & western band Nashville Nights. So grab a pint or two of Brewpoint’s finest in the Garden Bar, enjoy some delicious food and pick up a whole new wardrobe. Win win!
