Mill Street is now open. A spokesperson from Cadent Gas said: “We’re sorry for any disruption people may be experiencing as a result, but the work had to be carried out to help ensure local homes, businesses and community facilities keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating.”
Mill Street in Bedford will be closed until tomorrow (7th Dec) due to emergency repairs on a gas main.
Cadent Gas were already carrying out routine maintenance on the gas supply in the area and planned to keep one side of the road open. However, when a gas leak was detected the crew decided to close the road for safety.
A spokesperson for Cadent told the Bedford Independent that they had hoped to open the road again this evening but will now have to keep it closed until tomorrow, 7 December.
The road is closed at the St. Cuthbert’s Street end with traffic needing to access Mill Street or use it to access the town centre being diverted along Lurke Street, St. Peter’s Street and then the High Street.
