Future NHS heroes are getting front-line experience at Bedford Hospital as part of their T-Level Health course at Bedford College.

The 12 students taking their T-levels, which are the equivalent of three A-Levels, must complete 315 hours of work placement in an industry setting.

Practice educator at the hospital, Stacy Sherwood, is a former Bedford College student herself and is now showing the trainees how what they learnt in the classroom translates into practice.

Stacy took A-Levels at Bedford College after leaving Hastingsbury Upper School in Kempston. She then went on to the University of Bedfordshire to study for her Adult Branch Nursing Degree.

Stacy has since worked in various nursing roles, wards and departments before taking on her current role in practice education two years ago.

“It is so lovely to work with students from schools, colleges and sixth forms in the local area,” she said.

“I was once in the same position as the students I am now supporting, and it’s a privilege to have the opportunity to try and give something back through the Health and Care Academy and T-Level programmes, supported by the Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.”

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
