Fire at Kelpie Marine, Roxton closes A1 in both directions

Latest update: The roads have now reopened.

Bedfordshire police say that traffic remains heavy in the area and advise motorists to still use alternative routes where possible and allow extra time for your journey.

Both carriageways of the A1 between the Black Cat Roundabout and Tempsford have been closed while emergency services deal with a fire at Kelpie Marine in Roxton.

A spokesperson for Bedfordshire Police has asked motorists to “avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible.”

Posting on social media, Bedfordshire Police said: ‘We are currently at the scene of an incident at Kelpie Marine near Roxton.

‘Road closures are in place on both carriageways of the A1 between the Black Cat Roundabout and Tempsford, and on School Lane while emergency services respond.

‘Please avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible.’

A Bedfordshire Fire & Rescue (BFRS) spokesperson also added an update to their social media channels.

It said: ‘The fire service was called at 11.28am today to reports of a fire in the open and has a number of fire engines and specialist vehicles at the scene of a fire involving a boat and shed at Kelpie Marine, off the Great North Road.’
