Bedfordshire homelessness charity Emmaus Village Carlton is helping to support furry four-legged friends, and others, in a partnership with a local animal charity.
Volunteers and companions at the Carlton Village-based charity have been setting aside donations of pet carriers, blankets and other useful items, which are then being passed to an animal charity, Animals in Need.
This then helps support the animal charity’s busy rescue, adoption and rehoming work.
Emmaus Village Carlton volunteer of eight years, Eileen Schubert, who lives in nearby Bromham said: “We always set aside pet items such as cat and dog beds, carriers, blankets and towels for Animals in Need as it’s good to support other charities.”
The partnership matches Emmaus Village’s solidarity work, which sees companions supporting local people sleeping rough on the streets through their ‘Rucksack Stomp’ programme.
This provided them with hot drinks and food, as well as sleeping bags, tents and warm clothing.
But, as Eileen explains, they wanted to do more.
“It’s also good to show solidarity with other charities too, which is why we help Animals in Need, which does such great work helping animals… We also provide the Woodgreen animal shelter with supplies too where we can.”
Annie Marriott, Sanctuary Manager for Animals in Need added: “We would like to thank the volunteers and supporters of Emmaus for kindly donating animal beds, baskets and carriers throughout the year.
“We are grateful to you for thinking of us and your kindness makes a difference to so many lives.”
If you can help by donating items for the charity’s solidarity work, you can drop them off at the shop in School Lane, Carlton, MK43 7LQ, every Wednesday to Saturday from 10am – 2.30pm and Sunday 10am – 2.30pm.
