After its sold-out debut production, Bedford-based theatre company Modern Originals & New Artists (MO&NA) has announced the return of its flagship event, “From Scratch” in a new home at the Place Theatre.

From Scratch is a creative arts programme that celebrates the talent of Bedford’s local community and the MO&NA team is encouraging as many people as possible to apply for the roles of director, actor, or writer.

How to take part

“Our first event featured the talents of construction workers, retirees, teachers, full-time parents, people in the travel industry, healthcare workers, professional artists and more,” said MO&NA’s creative director, Jess Ennis.

“Each of them had the desire to use the project as a new, creative recreation and a way to make connections within the community. You do not need to be a professional to apply; you just need to want to get involved.”

Are you a writer? MO&NA is looking for talented individuals who can craft compelling and original scripts.

Could you direct? Are you a visionary leader who can breathe life into scripts through direction?

Want to act? Apply now if you are a skilled performer, ready to embody diverse characters and stories

Applications are now open, and all interested parties are encouraged to apply before the deadline on Wednesday, 1 May.

All roles are voluntary, including the MO&NA team, with the aim to raise funds to continue building platforms for new artists in the area. Applications can be made through MO&NA’s website here.

The 2024 From Scratch event will take place at The Place Theatre on Saturday, 24 August. at 7.30pm.

“From Scratch promises to be an extraordinary evening featuring new plays and scenes, all exclusively written, performed, and directed by a pool of gifted local artists,” said Jess.

“We encourage those who are not interested in applying for an artist role to book tickets via the Place Theatre website.” You can book your tickets here.
