Borough councillors are due to be asked to agree on the wording to refuse planning permission for a KFC drive-through.

The application for a drive-through facility at 498 Goldington Road, Bedford, was refused at last month’s Planning Committee (October 14).

The minutes for the meeting showed that following a debate on the application, the committee resolved that permission be, “refused in respect of the above application against the recommendation of the chief officer, planning, infrastructure and economic growth”.

And the minutes state the refusal reason would be reported back at the next Planning Committee for Members to agree to the wording of the reason for refusal (relating to the access and highway safety).

The agenda for next week’s committee meeting states: “The proposed site layout would result in the users of the drive through lane having to join the public highway at the existing access on site that would result in vehicles having to undertake a sharp U-turn manoeuvre and cross a bi-directional cycle-footway to gain access onto Goldington Road.

“As a result there would be potential for conflict with pedestrians/cyclists and other vehicles on the highway contrary to policies 31 (i), (iii) & 88 (vi) of the Bedford Borough Local Plan 2030.”

The meeting will start at 18:30 on Monday, November 18. It can be watched view a livestream on the council’s website.
