The new booking line for the Barkers Lane Tidy Tip has experienced a high volume of callers since it opened this morning.
Residents trying to book a slot once the household waste centre reopens on Monday 11 May have been unable to get through, but Bedford Borough Council assured the Bedford Independent that they were processing calls as quickly as possible.
It was reported earlier today that the Tidy Tip will reopen next week, enabling local residents to get rid of bulky household waste for the first time since the end of March.
Commenting on the Bedford Independent Facebook page, residents posted that the phone line was immediately unavailable, following a large number of callers trying to get through.
In response, a Borough Council spokesperson said, ‘We are experiencing high call volumes to book slots for the tip at this time.
“Our Customer Services Team have been taking bookings since they opened earlier today and they are working hard to answer and process calls as quickly as possible. Thank you to everyone for their patience.”
If your trip to the Tidy Tip is non-urgent, it’s advisable to wait until next week to make your booking.
