The junction at Cauldwell Street and Prebend Street is the location for the last traffic light upgrade in Bedford this year.
Throughout 2020, the council has carried out upgrades on traffic lights at London Road / Elstow Road, Newnham Avenue / Goldington Road, and Bromham Road / Newnham Street, with the aim of short term pain for long-term gain.
All of these upgrades have seen equipment and software put in place to improve the detection and control of traffic, to help traffic flow better at these well-known congested junctions.
The Cauldwell Street / Prebend Street works will see temporary traffic lights in place during these works to keep traffic moving, with occasional lane closures necessary to install traffic detection equipment.
These works are expected to take three weeks, and follow on from the upgrade of the lights at Kingsway / Cauldwell St junction, which will be completed by the end of this week.
Cllr Charles Royden, Portfolio Holder for Transport said, “I would like to thank everyone for their patience while we have carried these works out.
“We always try to minimise the impact that roadworks will have as we tackle congestion hotspots and improve our roads for the future.”
