Bedford Borough Council is installing hundreds of electric vehicle (EV) charging points to help local people without off-street parking switch to greener transport.
The initial rollout of 260 sockets is being completed by EV provider Connected Kerb on behalf of the council’s highways engineering team.

The chargers are being installed across Bedford, Kempston and the borough’s villages to give locals without driveways practical access to reliable charging.

The project is backed by the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund, provided by the Department for Transport’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles.
The council will use this investment to add more than 900 extra sockets to the network.
This aims to meet growing demand from both local people and visitors to the borough.
Cllr Nicola Gribble (Independent/Renhold and Ravensden), portfolio holder for environment, said: “Installing EV charging points across the Borough is making EV ownership more practical and accessible, and gives people greater confidence to choose an EV.
“The future of transport isn’t happening at some distant point; it’s already here. We are creating a cleaner, more connected future for residents and visitors across Bedford Borough.”
