Breaking news: Emergency services “searching river” in Bedford

Emergency Services are searching the River Great Ouse near the Swan Hotel.

Emergency services are currently “searching the river” along Bedford’s Embankment.

Update, 11:28: Bedfordshire Police have told us: “Officers are currently in attendance at The Embankment following reports of a concern for safety.

“We were called at around 9.25am following reports from a member of the public of a man in the water.

“Officers are assisting colleagues from the ambulance service and fire service. A search is currently underway.

“Bedfordshire Police, Bedfordshire Fire & Rescue, East Anglia Ambulances and the East Anglian Air Ambulance are all on the scene at the River Great Ouse near the Swan Hotel.”

Earlier, a witness told the Bedford Independent fire crews are out in their fireboat and the police helicopter is reportedly using thermal imaging directed at the water “searching the river”.
