The Bedford Independent has learnt that JPI Media is suspending the Times & Citizen, Bedford’s last printed news source, indefinitely and print copies will not be delivered, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The newspaper is just one of around nine titles looked after by a small team based in Milton Keynes. They currently print around 20,000 copies.
In an email seen by us, Group Editor, David Summers informed JPI Media colleagues that it is their intention to retain staff.
The email also revealed plans to seek tax payer support from the Government. That’s despite the T&C’s parent company, JPI Media, being owned by bondholders, the largest thought to be US hedge fund Goldentree Asset Management.
Other titles being suspended in our region also include the MK Citizen and Luton Herald & Post.
