As Bedford’s school children excitedly prepare for the long summer holidays, parents are faced with the daunting prospect of finding family-friendly fun that won’t break the bank.

Rather than trawling through search engines or relying on social media recommendations, Explore Bedford have put together a one-stop-shop of boredom-busting holiday ideas.

From free craft sessions in Bedford Borough libraries to workshops at the Higgins Bedford and wet and wild activities at Box End Waterpark, there’s something for everyone, whatever the weather.

“Whether you’re a resident or a visitor, there’s loads to do in Bedford this summer,” said Explore Bedford’s Julia Crofts.

Rain or shine, there’s plenty to see and do at the Higgins this summer

“We want to make planning your summer holiday activities as simple and straightforward as possible. As well as our holiday guide, we’ve got a summer events leaflet too which can be picked up while you’re out and about or viewed on our website.”

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
