Bedford Blues haven’t enjoyed the best of times in 2024 so far, but two home games inside eight days may well reignite their season, beginning with London Scottish who they face under the Friday night lights at Goldington Road.

Scottish have endured a frustrating time themselves; they lost out to league leaders Coventry last weekend thanks to a last gasp try and should not be underestimated despite sharing last spot in the Championship with new boys, Cambridge.

A shock 19-17 victory against perennial favourites, Ealing earlier in the season show the side from the capital have it in them to spring an upset and Mike Rayer will be well aware that his side will need to be at maximum strength to regain winning ways.

Seven changes

Clearly looking for a change of fortunes, Mike Rayer has changed almost half of his starting line up with four changes in the pack alongside three additional alterations in the back line.

Michael Le Bourgeois returns to familiar territory in the twelve shirt with Matt Worley slotting back in at full back, with Jordan Venter coming in alongside the Bedford talisman.

Louis Grimoldby has also been given another chance to impress at fly half with Will Maisey dropping to the bench.

Ed Prowse makes a welcome return to the front row in what will be his first start of the season while Joey Conway also comes in up front.

Robin Williams in the second row and Kieran Curran at open side complete the changes with Bryan O’Connor joining Jacob Fields on the physio’s table after picking up an injury in South Yorkshire last weekend.

The Blues sit fifth in the Championship, although do have a game in hand on the Knights above them ahead of a busy few weeks heading into February.

Tickets for what is always a magic occasion on Friday night are still available to buy here.
