Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Authority is reviewing how it investigates and disciplines its most senior officers, including the chief fire officer, under a draft new procedure shared at its latest meeting.

Tuesday’s meeting (3 June) heard the proposed disciplinary process outlines how complaints against “principal officers and designated statutory officers” would be handled.

These roles include the chief fire officer and other senior posts such as the monitoring and finance officers.

The report to the Authority said the document builds upon the interim arrangements approved by the Fire Authority in June 2024 and ensures continued alignment with national frameworks, employment law, and “principles of natural justice”.

Angela Paradise, interim head of people, said, “It’s designed to be separate from the disciplinary policy to all staff.

“The policies are out for a six-week consultation, which concludes on 3 July.”

Members agreed to note the draft procedure, and to receive a further report at a special meeting of the Authority’s Executive Committee.
